We received some seeds of the Brasil plant (Haematoxylon brasiletto) from the Arikok National park to see if we can get some of these very rare Aruba plants to grow in our area. So we proceeded with placing 2 of the seeds in water on june 1, 2019.
After 13 days in water, moved the seedlings to some plant pots with daily supply of fresh water via the drip system.
Was quite surprised this morning that one of the seedlings germinated and was looking quite strong.
I still have some more seeds, so will try to germinate the remaining ones very soon.
Side note: it appears the reason that the Brasil plant is so rare is because it was over harvested to be used as “red die” back when the color dies were still made from plant material. Actually it is a very picturesque tree.
